Adjusting text fonts in Squarespace is straightforward. Follow these steps based on whether you’re using a template with the Site Styles panel or the newer Squarespace 7.1 (which unifies style settings across templates).
Squarespace 7.1 (and many templates)
Open the site editor
Log in to your Squarespace account and open the site you want to edit.
Click Edit Site (or click Pages then a page and choose Edit).
Open Site Styles
In the editor, click the Paintbrush icon (Design) or the “Site Styles” button. This opens global style controls for fonts, colors, spacing, etc.
Change global fonts
Locate the Typography or Fonts section. You’ll see controls for Heading Font, Body Font, and sometimes UI or Button fonts.
Click a font selector to choose a new font from the built-in catalog. Scroll to see available families and styles (weights/italics).
Adjust font size, line height, letter spacing, and weight as needed. Changes apply site-wide so your headings and body text remain consistent.
Fine-tune specific elements
Within Site Styles you can usually target specific text types: H1, H2, H3, paragraph, caption, navigation, and buttons. Set sizes and spacing for each type to achieve a balanced hierarchy.
Save your changes
Click Save or Save & Publish to apply the new fonts site-wide.
Editing fonts for specific blocks or text
Edit a page or block
Enter Page Edit mode and click a text block (or any block that contains text).
Use the text editor toolbar
Apply inline formatting (bold, italic), choose paragraph vs. heading levels. Fonts for these are governed by your Site Styles; you can change only the heading level rather than the font family here.
Apply block-specific style (if your template supports it)
Some blocks offer design or style options where you can set size, alignment, and color specifically for that block.
Custom fonts and advanced options
Upload a custom font
In Design > Custom Files or Design > Custom Fonts (depending on version), upload font files (WOFF/WOFF2 recommended). Then assign them in Site Styles where custom fonts appear in the selector.
Check licensing before uploading any commercial font.
Use custom CSS
For precise control, go to Design > Custom CSS and add CSS rules targeting selectors (e.g., h1, .sqs-block-paragraph). Example: body { font-family: "Your Custom Font", system-ui, sans-serif; }
Custom CSS is powerful but can override responsive/site-style settings; test on multiple screen sizes.
Best practices
Make global changes in Site Styles so typography stays consistent.
Use 2–3 complementary fonts (one for headings, one for body, optional accent).
Keep sizes responsive: use relative sizing in Site Styles or test on mobile.
Limit weights and styles for performance—fewer font files load faster.
Always preview across device sizes before publishing.
If you tell me which Squarespace version and template you’re using or whether you want to upload a custom font, I can give step-by-step instructions tailored to your site.
